Most complaints to the Ombudsman are straightforward and do not require a written report. A small number of complaints, due to the complexity of the issues raised or because the issues have a wider significance for public administration, result in investigation reports.
These reports include the formal findings of the investigation and the Ombudsman's recommendations for action or compensation for the complainant as well as recommendations for improved practice. We do not always seek compensation or indeed receive it if we do request it.
