Ombudsman Ger Deering was delighted to engage with a number of Public Participation Networks in counties throughout Ireland in recent months. A Public Participation Network (PPN) is a network that allows local authorities to connect with community groups around the country. Engaging with the PPNs helps the Ombudsman ensure that those who may have dealings with public services more than others are aware of the Ombudsman service if something does go wrong.
The Ombudsman addressed recent Plenary sessions of PPNs in Mayo (29 April), Cork County (1 May) and Leitrim (15 May), as well as in Monaghan and Fingal earlier this year, meeting volunteers and explaining the role of the Ombudsman. A number of similar appearances at other PPNs are planned for the year ahead.
